Johns Hopkins University Hematology Chief in St. Petersburg, Florida

Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital (JHACH) in St. Petersburg, Florida is seeking a Division Chief for Hematology to serve in the Cancer and Blood Disorders Institute (CBDI). JHACH is a 259-bed teaching hospital, ranked as a U.S. News & World Report Best Children's Hospital (2023-2024) in multiple pediatric specialties, including #31 in cancer, as well as the #1 Children's Hospital in Florida.

The CBDI encompasses the divisions of Hematology, Oncology, and Blood and Marrow Transplant. The CBDI is a dynamic component of the JHACH, comprised of pediatric hematologist/oncologists, blood/marrow transplanters, transfusion medicine experts, basic, translational, and clinical scientists, and specialized advanced practice providers. The institute has 26 faculty members including 4 basic research scientists. The Hematology Division has 7 faculty members who report to the Division Chief. The division encompasses a medium sized Sickle Cell Disease Program, a Comprehensive Hemophilia Treatment Center, Thrombosis Program, Benign Hematology Program, and Vascular Anomalies Program. The Hematology Division Chief will report directly to the Director of the Cancer and Blood Disorders Institute. S/he will have clinical and translation research expertise as a board-certified pediatric hematologist/oncologist with a record of academic scholarship, and will hold a faculty appointment with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Supervise all clinical work in the hematology division

  • Serve as a primary mentor to multiple clinical research trainees in JHACH's fellowship programs org-wide (ie, across multiple departments and institutes, outside of the faculty member's primary subspecialty)

  • Review credentialing files and FPPE of all members of hematology division

  • Serve on the Executive Council of CBDI

  • Address HERO and safety concerns in the hematology division

  • Review OPPE documentation for hematology division members

  • Promote and model key cultural tenets, including but not limited to service excellence, transparency, inclusiveness and diversity, employee recognition, engagement and empowerment.

  • Design, plan and execute independent research/projects in area of expertise

  • Work with JHACH Foundation to seek funding to support independent research and the CBDI research program

  • Promote scientific discussion and mentorship within the institute/community and contribute to research initiatives

  • Assist CBDI director to facilitate connections with external stakeholders (eg investigators, vendors). Contribute to building relationships with significant external partnerships/institutions (eg business alliance partners, academic institutions) in order to advance clinical studies and programs.

  • Serve on CBDI Research Council in partnership with core research faculty, including prioritizing efforts across the portfolio and ensure research progress on deliverables and data interpretation/review.

Qualifications:

  • MD or DO required

    • 5 relevant years' experience in clinical and translational research, with a strong track record of research productivity with respect to publication and funding.
