Johns Hopkins University Adjunct Voice Teacher in Frederick, Maryland
Position Summary
The Peabody Preparatory is pleased to announce an adjunct Voice Teacher position in the Voice Department at the Peabody Preparatory's new Frederick Location, starting immediately. The successful candidate will join a highly skilled and dedicated voice faculty as part of a vibrant and active department committed to helping students of all levels achieve their potential; we embrace the novice musician as well as the serious student aspiring toward a career in music.
Ideal candidates will have a background in vocal performance, education, and/or vocal pedagogy, and be enthusiastically committed to teaching singers at all levels of experience. Additional opportunities to develop classes and workshops according to candidate experience and interest may be available.
This position will be based at the Preparatory's new Frederick campus, and teachers must be available for assignments as they come in. Teachers set their own schedules (subject to space availability), but after school and/or weekend hours will be required to meet student needs. This is a part-time adjunct position; hours vary according to enrollment. Adjuncts may carry up to a maximum of 9.5 hours per week, although 1-3 hours are initially anticipated for this position.
Duties
Teach class voice for youth/teen/adult groups.
Teach private lessons to voice students aged 12 years and older, including adults, at all levels ranging from beginners to advanced levels during the fall and spring semesters (32 weeks). Opportunities may also be available during the summer session.
Participate in and assist with end-of-semester performances at the downtown Baltimore campus.
Attend occasional faculty meetings (compensated).
Opportunities may be available for candidate to develop classes and workshops according to their experience and interest.

Founded in 1894, the Peabody Preparatory of the Johns Hopkins University is Baltimore's premier community school and pre-professional academy for the performing arts. The Peabody Preparatory is part of the Peabody Institute, one of the nine divisions that comprises the Johns Hopkins University. The Preparatory has a distinguished faculty of 130 educators and serves approximately 2,500 students per week on four campuses. The Preparatory offers music and dance educational experiences ranging from early childhood classes for infants to life-long learners engaged through Peabody Plus. The dance department, dating from 1914, is one of the oldest continuously operating dance training centers in the United States.
Students can enroll in individual lessons where they can participate in repertoire classes, recitals, and competitions. Group instruction is available in dance, large ensembles, chorus, chamber music, early childhood music classes, vocal fundamentals, and music theory. In addition, the Preparatory offers more structured curricula for our most serious students through the Preparatory's academy, certificate, and pre-professional training programs.
Bachelor's degree in vocal performance and/or education/vocal pedagogy is required.
Master's degree or equivalent experience and training preferred.
Must have classical training and experience; additional experience/training in other genres a plus.
Knowledge of repertoire for developing voices.
Demonstrated experience and proficiency teaching all voice types.
Experience working with pre-teen singers and male changing voices a plus.
