Johns Hopkins University Teaching Assistant in Baltimore, Maryland

The Department of Biostatistics is seeking a Teaching Assistant for Statistical Methods I-III (Biostatistics 140.621-623) who will assist with the assigned online course(s), facilitating communication between and providing course support to students and faculty. Please note, this is a Casual hourly position; it is NOT a full-time opportunity.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Staying abreast of the current course material

  • Holding TA office hours to address questions from students

  • Monitoring the CoursePlus Discussion Forum and answering queries from students

  • Summarizing on the CoursePlus Wiki the common questions of the office hours

  • Grading problem sets and providing feedback

  • Directing students to faculty when appropriate

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree.

  • Previous completion of statistical coursework at the same level required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Statistical analysis skills, knowledge of Stata or R statistical package, excellent verbal communication skills.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficiency with statistical package, such as Stata or R.

Starting Salary Range: $18.86 - $25.93/hr (commensurate with experience)

Schedule: M-F 5 hours per week

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
