Johns Hopkins University Research Program Supervisor in Baltimore, Maryland

The Department of Neurology is seeking a Research Program Supervisor to support multiple research projects based in the Multiple Sclerosis Precision Medicine Center of Excellence. This position will report to the Center’s Project Administrator and will work in collaboration with multiple Physician-Investigators. The Research Program Supervisor will be responsible for supervision of and accountability for research staff and coordination of clinical research projects in support of the Center’s research and Precision Medicine efforts.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise Research Program Coordinators and carry out related HR functions including, but not limited to, hiring and onboarding, approving planned time off and ensuring adequate daily coverage of clinical and research duties, performance reviews, mediation, documenting performance issues, and serving as a liaison to Human Resources.

  • Learn to administer and demonstrate proficiency in various assessments utilized in the MS Precision Medicine Center, including the visual and imaging testing (i.e., visual acuity assessment and optical coherence tomography (OCTs)) and the Multiple Sclerosis Functional Composite (MSFC)

  • Regularly perform various MS assessments and act as a resource for new research personnel as they learn to perform testing; ensure training requirements are met by staff.

  • Maintain a good working knowledge of all assigned protocols and projects and their requirements.

  • Ensure regulatory and reporting activities (e.g., IRB, sponsor-specific) occur in a timely way, while adhering to requirements and best practices. This work may be carried out directly or by providing oversight and guidance to research staff.

  • Support employee job and career development by identifying training and educational opportunities.

  • Oversee the Student Internship Program: interview and conduct orientations with new students, complete routine check-in meetings with students to monitor performance and program satisfaction.

  • Monitor workload and recommend changes in staffing efforts.

  • Coordinate study activities, including recruitment, enrollment, and follow-up activities for a select set of protocols.

  • Provide back-up for research program coordinators as needed.

  • Work with the Center’s Administrative Coordinator to plan and coordinate research personnel engagement and appreciation events.

  • In concert with others, ensure IRB study teams are current and accurate with up-to-date training for all assigned protocols, as well as ensure that personnel directories listings are current and accurate.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.

  • Two years related experience, with some supervisory experience strongly preferred.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical skills such as OCT acquisition or Phlebotomy skills (or willingness to learn)

  • Masters Degree in a related field.

  • Experience with statistical software such as R, Stata, or SAS.
