Johns Hopkins University Research Assistant in Baltimore, Maryland

We are seeking a Research Assistant who can support the data collection efforts of school-based research activities. This includes assisting with the collection of parental consent forms; elementary student survey administration; and conducting classroom observations enrolled in research projects being conducted with the Anne Arundel County Public School system in Maryland. The start date would be August 2024 hire for training, and then activities throughout the 2024-2025 academic year. Flexibility on number of hours per week (see minimum qualifications).

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Receive basic human subjects and Good Clinical Practice training.

  • Receive training in all standard operating procedures of the study (i.e., consenting and data collection).

  • Present to grades 3-5 classrooms about the study and send home parental consent forms.

  • Assist with collecting student consent forms back from students/teachers.

  • Call parents from the district office to provide consent overviews by phone and send the consent form links

  • Proctor the administration of online student surveys in grade 3-5 classrooms.

  • Receive training and pass the testing with 80% accuracy for the Assessing School Settings: Interactions of Students and Teachers (ASSIST) observational measure.

  • Connect regularly with the supervisor about data collection.

  • Document any data collection irregularities.

  • Communicate any data collection challenges to the supervisor.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to use and perform basic troubleshooting of technology including tablets is essential.

  • Exceptional organization skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.

  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework in either education or social science research.

  • Experience with Education.

  • Experience with Social Science research.

  • Experience with online data collection methods (e.g., REDCap).

Role/Level/Range: ACRO40/E/03/CD

Starting Salary Range: $17.00 - $30.00 HRLY ($32,292 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

Employee group: Casual / On Call

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm - at least 3x a week

Exempt Status: Non-Exempt
